Happy New Year greetings from Cambridge Bay, land of the Inuinnait.

January has arrived and also the coldest time of the year. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Residents of Iqaluktuutiak held games at the gymnasium at Kiilinik High School. School has resumed in our community for the students and staff. We wish you all a great year, dress warm when going to school, and for the adults returning to work. There were many great memories made and have a great upcoming 2024.

With the cold weather, residents are out ice-fishing and trapping and hunting close by.

The daylight is only a few hours a day, with the sunrise slowly peeking over the horizon. We had a few days of cold winds and fresh snowfall, so please drive carefully on the roads.

Koanakpiak to all our municipal service employees working daily when water and sewage trucks are operating in this cold and dark weather. A new water truck was to arrive on the barge this year but never made it on the sealift due to the fire evacuation on the NWT highway. So next year we hope to get another water truck, which is much needed in our community.

Residents continue to conserve water and the hamlet employees are doing their best to service the community with fewer trucks operating. The community is growing much faster so this is a very important service — they continue to serve the community as best as they can.

The annual Kitikmeot Trade Show is scheduled for Feb. 7-9, put on by the Kitikmeot Chamber of Commerce here in Cambridge Bay. It is one of the events our children and Elders look forward to in greeting the visitors to our community. Make sure to dress warm when coming to Cambridge Bay for the trade show.

Stay warm everyone, dress properly when heading outdoors to do shopping and errands. We are thankful for the stores that open for residents to be able to shop for food and goods.

We hope you all had a great holiday and now to look forward to the new year. College students are back at their classes. The culinary arts program were busy making soup and bannock to deliver to residents of Cambridge Bay. It is most exciting when you receive some food, especially for the Elders and those in need of food on their table. With the high cost of food and goods, it is difficult at times. Koana to the students at the college cooking for the residents at times like this.

The sun will brighten the dark days up here. When flying into the community by plane it looks like a little Christmas town, so beautiful. Big thanks to the airlines for flying in and out of our communities.

Stay well everyone, remember to stay home and rest if you have symptoms of the cold and flu. Keep washing your hands and stay healthy and happy.

God Be With you Son. Happy New Year Enoktalik, we hope you all had a great holiday to remember.
