Time to examine yourself

As we begin the countdown towards Christmas and the new year, a closer examination of ourselves should be taking a hold of us.

Too many times when we are asked for help or assistance in whatever way, our reaction is, “What’s in it for me, what do I get in return?” Have you ever been there?

One of the things I have learned over the years is that some people are very clever in their way or approach in receiving gratuitous gifts from others. I really don’t think this is an intentional gesture, but perhaps it is because of past incidence and trauma that have brought them to a place of thinking that everyone in my world owes them.

This is where you as an individual, and perhaps one who has learned a few lessons in life, will come out of the 'box' and begin to reach out in patience and tolerance.

Yes, you have worked hard in attaining and accessing some of the luxuries of life, but think back to when you thought there was no hope or no progression and someone came along and lifted your eyes and head from despair and you determined that from now on you would think and be positive and make a concerted effort for your betterment and for those significant to you.

It is not easy, and there will be times when you have to put your foot down and be assertive by not enabling them to cover up because of their addictions. Having learned your own lessons in life’s journey, you should be able to encourage and empower others in their journey in life with confidence and positive engagements while holding their head up high.

Christmas is a time of giving and sharing. Entering the new year is a time of hope and looking forward to good things ahead for all, mom, dad and children, grandchildren along with our grandparents as well.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
