Iqaluit - After collecting 515 old telephone directories, students from Inuksuk High School in Iqaluit received $300 from Northwestel for their efforts.
"Every year, the effort demonstrated by students in each of these participating schools is wonderful to see,” said Northwestel general manager for Nunavut Bertrand Poisson.
"By diverting these directories from the landfill, these students are showing their commitment to building a greener tomorrow and Northwestel is proud to celebrate and reward their success."
The students plan to use the funds towards activities for the school’s ‘green club’ environmental program.
This is the sixth year that schools from Nunavut have participated in the program, according to the news release. Ecole des Trois-Soleils in Iqaluit also participated and brought the total of recycled directories in the territory to 734.
