The Recreation and Parks Association of Nunavut (RPAN) was busy in the capital earlier this month with education and awards on the agenda.
RPAN hosted its annual Recreation and Sport Leaders Conference from Oct. 19 to 21 with more than 75 people from around Nunavut and Nunavik expected to be in attendance to take part in workshops and discussions.
Oct. 20 was the big night, though, as the Recreation and Sport Awards banquet took place at the Frobisher Inn. A total of 13 awards were handed out in categories such as Male and Female Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year.

More honours for Jordin Tootoo
Nunavut
Nunavut's favourite hockey son had a couple of evenings earlier this month where he was the guest of honour.
Jordin Tootoo returned to Brandon, Man., to take part in the opening face-off of the Brandon Wheat Kings home game against the Everett Silvertips on Oct. 19. He also took part in a meet-and-greet with fans during the first intermission.
The following evening, Tootoo was the guest of honour at Rexall Place in Edmonton as the Edmonton Oilers paid tribute to Tootoo's contribution to Indigenous hockey and youth across the country.
Meeting of the minds

The Qavik Curling Club in Rankin Inlet is getting ready for its new season and the first order of business is its annual general meeting.
It's happening at the club on Oct. 27 starting at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, which will include elections to the club's board of directors. Several positions are open including president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
