Rankin Inlet man charged following single-vehicle accident

A 26-year-old Rankin Inlet man has been charged with impaired driving after a single-vehicle accident on Saturday morning.

The RCMP, bylaw, fire department and emergency medical services responded shortly before 9 a.m. when a vehicle was involved in a collision at the corner of 4th Street and 53rd Street in the Kivalliq community. The male driver and passenger were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and were later released, according to the Mounties.

The man subsequently charged with impaired driving was given a 24-hour roadside suspension of his licence and he was released. He's due to appear in Rankin Inlet court on Sept. 9.

Police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the accident.
