Iqaluit’s Discovery making room for medical travel clients

For people travelling to Iqaluit for medical travel, the news that Nova Hotels has bought the Discovery Boutique Hotel may be of interest.

Nova Hotels officially announced Oct. 16 that it has purchased the hotel.

Nova Hotels president Aleksa Mrdjenovich welcomed the hotel to its portfolio, saying "it brings our family business back into the hospitality market in one of the fastest growing areas in the North."

Nova was once the owner of the Hotel Arctic, called at that time the Nova Hotel. That property is now a Nunavut Arctic College residence owned by Qikiqtaaluk Properties Inc.

Mrdjenovich said Nova Hotels' sister company owns the Tammaativvik Medical Boarding Home in the capital, and "we will assist them in accommodating the large number of clients they are currently housing for medical stays, until such time as an expansion can be built."

Current staff is expected to remain.

"General manager Sylvie brings over 20 years of hospitality management and we are pleased to say that she will be staying on in her current role and we look forward to working together," said Mrdjenovich.
