Four athletes move on

Right, so we have our top four athletes from your votes for the Greatest Nunavut Athlete Of All Time.

Several people visited the Nunavut News page on Facebook and gave us their choice of who they’d like to see move on from the choices that were given. From that, here’s who made the final cut:
No. 1 – Jordin Tootoo
No. 2 – Drew Bell
No. 3 – Susie Pearce
No. 4 – Andy Attagutalukutuk

That foursome was ranked higher more often than others and that’s how they ended up finishing when the votes were tabulated. Thanks very much for voting and for being so enthusiastic about it.

Now, moving forward, we’re going to amend the competition a bit. Several people who commented weren’t particularly happy with the choices. For example, some mentioned Sean Nipisar of Whale Cove should have been an option and yes, he was left out. It wasn’t intentional by any means. James Tautu of Chesterfield Inlet was another choice that was suggested.

So with that in mind, here’s what we’re going to do:

We’re going to open the floor up to one more round of suggestions. No rankings, no nothing. You get to choose. From our choices, we will take the top four and move them into the tournament. And here’s an added bonus: when you nominate someone, tell us why you’re nominating them.

We’ll post this at the Nunavut News Facebook page on May 4 at 12 p.m. EDT and you will have until May 11 at 11:59 p.m. EDT to get your nomination in. Again, the top four athletes who receive the most votes will move into the tournament with the four who have already been selected.

Also, this isn’t scientific by any stretch of the imagination and it’s not meant to crown the ultimate athlete there’s ever been. It’s to have a bit of fun and get people talking about something other than Covid-19. By the sounds of what was posted, this subject is a popular one so let’s keep the debate going.

You get to choose no matter what happens so get your choices in for the next four. Good luck.
