Fire hall under repair

A late August fire in the Kugaaruk fire hall caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to the building, according to John Ivey, the community's senior administrative officer.

"We managed to get power reintroduced to the building and they put some new wires in so we get power back. We don't have all the necessary panelling and insulation we need," Ivey said last week. "All the stuff inside got burned, and the walls... the actual structure wasn't damaged, just the interior. We're working on that. It's got heat and power in there now."

Those who raced to the scene of the blaze reacted quickly and prevented the situation from becoming much worse.

"Luckily we got the fire truck out and it wasn't damaged," Ivey said.

The RCMP arrested a man in connection with the fire at the time.
