Events cancelled but Kugluktuk SAO says life goes on

Next month’s Nattiq Frolics have been scrapped, as is the Kitikmeot Hockey Tournament but life continues, says Kugluktuk SAO Ronald Ladd.

“Of course people are worried about the coronavirus outbreak reaching the North, but all we can do is ask for everyone to be following the universal precautions such as washing of hands, not touching their faces, coughing into their arm and just basic hygiene practices,” said Ladd when reached on March 16.

“We are keeping updated with regular meetings with the Government of Nunavut and informing the people of the community through the local radio station.”

While air travel to and from the community continues, Ladd said extra steps have been taken to keep travellers safe. Cleaning hours at the facility have been doubled to eight hours per day, he said.
