Coral Harbour to host liquor plebiscite community meetings next week

With a liquor plebiscite looming in Coral Harbour on Nov. 9, the Department of Finance and Nunavut Elections will send representatives to the community for public meetings on Oct. 27.

Up to 100 people will be able to attend each session at noon and 6 p.m. in the community hall as Covid-19 restrictions and social distancing will be enforced.

Some Coral Harbour residents have created a petition to have the community change from prohibition to restricted quantities. If 60 per cent of voters endorse the change, then one litre of spirits, four litres of wine and 18 litres of beer would be the limit for purchase every 14 days.

An advanced poll is scheduled for Nov. 2.
