The annual Spook-a-Rama Halloween event in Iqaluit has been cancelled.

The City of Iqaluit announced Friday afternoon that Covid-19 guidelines requiring social distancing and other safety protocols are the reasons for calling off the event, which is traditionally a major function for the Makkuttukkuvik Youth Centre.

However, the youth centre will still be open on Oct. 31 for Halloween-themed programming for all ages, but with a capacity of 25 people, according to the city.

The municipality is also planning an online Halloween-themed contest with a variety of ways to win prizes.
