Welcome to the sunny island of the Kiilinikmiut. The beautiful sun has officially returned, showing for five minutes on Thursday, January 11. It looks so beautiful over the horizon, no matter how cold it may be. At times, the ice fog gives it a foggy image, but koana it came back.

The sunsets are so beautiful in the North and that is the beauty of our land. Each day we have more daylight. As spring is coming soon, we look forward to warmer weather.

A group of community residents are volunteering to set up a snowmobile racing committee and they held their first meeting Wednesday, January 17 at the radio station. Approximately 10 people were in attendance and on the executive are Catherine Anayoak. Kelsey Maniyogina, Tracy Okhina and Ellie Mala. The committee will begin fundraising and organizing to plan races on Saturdays before the Omingmak Frolics. Their next meeting is on February 6.

Ellie also has trophies from last year's races to hand out, so please go see Ellie to get your trophy. Snowmobile races are one of the most popular events during Cambridge Bay's annual Omingmak Frolics. Good luck to the Omingmak Racing Committee and koana for dedicating your time for this.

Welcome back Sun! Yes, the sun officially returned to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut on Thursday, January 11,2018. Always nice for a shiny friend to all to come back each day gets brighter. Navalik Tologanak/NNSL photo

The Ekaluktutiak Hunters' and Trappers' Organization is busy with residents harvesting for fish from fishermen, hunters busy with both caribou and muskox to distribute to the community. Koana for country food and sharing with the community residents who are always so thankful for traditional food from the land. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations to the newest hamlet councillors who were sworn in at the beautiful hamlet chambers in Cambridge Bay. Newly elected Mayor Pamela Gross, deputy mayor Christina L'Heureux, Aaron Pedersen, Jenna Kamingoak, and returning councillors Jamie Taipana and Sandi Gillis. Their first official special hamlet council meeting will be held on Monday, January 22 and the arena is on the agenda. Good luck for a successful year.

The 2018 Kitikmeot Trade Show will be held February 12 to 14, and a schedule of events will be available soon. We encourage local seamstresses and carvers and artists to bring their products to the show for sale. We look forward to seeing everyone at the show. See you soon.

God Be With You Son.
