Two new cases of Covid-19 were detected in Arviat as of Friday, pushing the total number of active infections to 29.
“Nunavummiut, we need to continue supporting the community of Arviat. Each and every one of us has the means to stop the spread of the virus,” said chief public health officer Dr. Michael Patterson. “As we head into the weekend, it is imperative that Arviammiut refrain from visiting, maintain strong physical distancing and wear masks when outside their households.”
All individuals who have contracted the virus recently are doing well, are isolating at home and contact tracing is ongoing, according to the Department of Health.
As of Feb. 19, Arviat testing has yielded 2,153 negative tests.
Travel in and out of Arviat remains restricted, except for emergency or essential purposes.
Arviammiut who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine can call their health centre for
an appointment. To date, 6,915 Nunavummiut have received at least one dose of the
Moderna vaccine. Vaccine clinics in the territory are ongoing.
Anyone who has reason to believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 is advised to
call the COVID-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify
their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days
