Arctic Winter Games cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns

The Arctic Winter Games have been cancelled for 2020 due to concerns around the spread of the COVID-19 virus or coronavirus.

A joint statement from the Whitehorse 2020 Arctic Winter Games Host Society,  Government of Yukon, City of Whitehorse, and Chief Medical Officer of Health released today detail how the Games' host society is following the recommendation of their lead health officer.

"It has been determined that cancelling the 2020 AWG is the most responsible precautionary measure," stated the news release.

"This decision is a direct result of concerns around the spread of COVID-19 and is supported by the Arctic Winter Games International Committee."

There are currently no reported cases of the virus in any of the territories.
