Seven new Covid cases in Arviat

Today the Government of Nunavut announced seven new active cases of Covid-19 in Arviat, bringing the number of active cases in the community and Nunavut to 18.

Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut's chief public health officer urged everyone in the community to stay home, unless absolutely necessary to venture out, and to wear a mask when outside the household.

"As we see an increase of Covid-19 cases in Arviat, it is critical that everyone continues to do their part to stop the spread of the virus," Patterson said. "I know you are all tired and fatigue is setting in, but please stay the course and stay strong."

The GN's Rapid Response Team is supporting the community health team in Arviat.

Anyone who has travelled to and from Arviat since Jan. 12 are asked to limit their contacts and self-monitor for symptoms and to contact their local health centre or Iqaluit Public Health if in the city.

Anyone who has reason to believe they have been exposed to Covid-19 is advised to call the Covid-hotline at 1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST, or notify their community health centre right away, and immediately isolate at home for 14 days. Please do not go to the health centre in person.
