Woman stabbed in Gjoa Haven

A 21-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and breaking a court condition following an incident in which a woman was stabbed several times in a Gjoa Haven residence on Dec. 11.

The accused, as a result of a Dec. 13 bail hearing, was released until his Jan. 17 court date in Gjoa Haven. There were restrictions imposed on him that are intended to protect the complainant.

The woman's injuries were not life-threatening. She was treated at the local health centre and allowed to go.

The police continue to investigate, but will not say what type of weapon was used in the assault.
