Sanikiluaq youth faces careless firearm charge

Sanikiluaq RCMP are charging a 16-year-old youth with careless use of a firearm following a "very high risk situation" on Wednesday evening.

The police received a call about a youth causing a disturbance at a residence. Upon responding, a community member informed the RCMP that the suspect inside the home was an intoxicated youth with a loaded firearm.

The youth attempted to exit the home but then retreated inside after seeing the Mounties. He then reportedly tried to leave through the rear of the house but he was met by another officer who quickly arrested him. The police found a loaded firearm near the rear door.

The youth is also being charged with mischief as damage was found to the home.

The accused has a bail hearing set for Thursday afternoon in Sanikiluaq.

The RCMP thank the public for their assistance in the incident.
