Welcome springtime to Cambridge Bay. Yes spring has finally decided to return with the sun shining more and more and plenty of daylight hours. Cambridge Bay is getting ready for the annual spring festival, 2018 Omingmak Frolics. This year’s theme is ULAPKINIKMI PAKALLAK – Frolics Fever.
There will be many fun family activities planned with lots of music, feasts, dances, snowmobile races and much more. The festival is two weeks earlier this year due to warmer temperatures, in hopes of avoiding all the melt on the ice where the Frolics are usually held.
There is a King/Queen/Prince/Princess contest every year where they fundraise for the events. Adults and youth participate and register, selling raffle tickets with great prizes. Good luck to all entering, it is wonderful to see our energetic youth getting involved. We are proud of you.
The popular snowmobile races will be held April 30 to May 6, and the Omingmak Racing Committee has a schedule with categories and prizes listed. Good luck to all the racers and be safe always. Koana to the Omingmak Racing Committee for your hard work in preparing this event for this year’s Frolics.
We look forward to a family fun filled week with many guests invited to give us a good show. Be safe and enjoy the Frolics this year. See you there!
Each spring, students at Kullik Ilihakvik get to enjoy outdoor activities with the warmer weather. Students and staff get to enjoy being out at Jack’s Point sliding, making tea, playing on the ice and hills. The students, staff and Elders also go out to West Arm to be on the land pitching up a tent, having lunch by the Arctic Ocean. A great way to keep kids in school by enjoying what they do.
God be with you son. Miss you at races.
