Rankin Inlet South – Nunavut Election 2017 candidate profiles

by Derek Neary- October 20, 2017

Rankin Inlet South is headed for another showdown at the polls between incumbent Alexander Sammurtok and challenger Lorne Kusugak. Kusugak did not submit a candidate profile.

Alexander Sammurtok
Incumbent MLA
Rankin Inlet
Family status: Married with six children

Alexander Sammurtok

Reason for running:

I was asked to run again for MLA by many of my constituents and also by my family. I enjoy representing my community and being their voice.

Some of the things I am focusing on are:

– Continue to fight to keep the elders in Nunavut by getting us a long-term care facility.

– Education and training for Nunavummiut (including mine training and employment with a request for a training centre.

– Mental health support and facility.

– Housing issues.
– Small business support and municipal infrastructure.
