A new way to play

Students at Tuugaalik High School and Tusarvik Elementary School were introduced to an exciting variation of the game of hockey that they can play nice and warm in the indoors recently.

Hockey Canada manager of School programs Pier-Alexander Poulin taught them some of the skills involved with playing floorball this past week in Naujaat.

A number of skills sessions were also held at the local arena for players participating in Naujaat's minor hockey program.

Poulin spent two days in the community, Jan. 10 and 11, teaching skills in the two sports to Naujaat youth.

The program had made stops in Baker Lake and Arviat in previous years, and alternates on a year-to-year basis between Nunavut communities and those in the NWT.

Poulin, accompanied by another instructor, was scheduled to bring the program to Coral Harbour following the Naujaat visit.
