by Darrell Greer- November 28, 2017

Donna May Kimmaliardjuk, who has extended family members in both Chesterfield Inlet and Rankin Inlet, was announced as one of the three youth Indspire Award winners earlier this month.

Kimmaliardjuk, who begins her six years of training to become a cardiac surgeon this coming summer after graduating from medical training at the University of Calgary, took the Inuit Youth Award Inuit Nunangat (Inuit regions of Canada).

Indspire is the largest funder of indigenous post-secondary education outside of the federal government.

Its jury is composed of previous award winners who represent a range or sectors and regions across the country.

The 2018 Indspire Awards ceremony will be held in Winnipeg, Man., on March 23, 2018, and will feature live performances from some of the biggest names in indigenous entertainment in Canada today.
