Guess what? Tickets will soon be on sale online for the 2018 Arctic Winter Games opening and closing ceremonies, along with the cultural gala performance!

The opening ceremony, sponsored by Northwestel, will take place March 18 at 6 p.m. at the Hay River Recreation Centre. The one-hour show will launch and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Arctic Winter Games and I know the energy in the room will be electric and enthusiastic.

A local group of Dene drummers will open with a prayer song, followed by a performance by the JBT (Joseph B. Tyrrell Elementary School) Jiggers from Fort Smith.

The cultural gala performance will take place March 23 at 6 p.m. at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Fort Smith. This two-hour show will showcase youth cultural performers from the nine participating contingents in the Arctic Winter Games. This event is always a crowd favorite at the Games and you don't want to miss seeing what all of our guests have in store.

And finally, the closing ceremony will take place March 24 at 4 p.m. at the Hay River Recreation Centre. The 45-minute show will include presentation of the Stuart Hodgson Trophy to the contingent whose athletes showcase the fair play and team spirit, and will bring to a close the 25th anniversary of the Arctic Winter Games. Johnny Landry, an Indigenous singer and songwriter from Fort Providence, will be providing entertainment for the evening.
